One of the best books on the topic

This is a very precise and well organized books. Every chapter is well justified and moreover each chapter contains relevant algorithms and psuedocode to address the problems discussed. This makes the book particularly practical and useful. Topics discussed follow each other naturally and the authors have done a great job of covering the topics conisely without going overboard.

Excellent intermediate textbook on Computer Vision

If you already understand image processing and the basics of computer vision, this book is a very good at concisely presenting more advanced algorithms to the reader. Also, because this book is so well organized, you can read it from beginning to end. Rest assured if you are looking at an algorithm on page 84, you will not need to skip ahead to later sections in the book to understand it. From the beginning, algorithms are named and presented in numbered steps for clarity of presentation. The book starts out with introductory material such as basic optics and the geometry of camera models. It continues with image denoising, as well as two full chapters devoted to image features and their detection. Finally, the more basic material concludes with a chapter on the mathematics of camera calibration. One aspect of vision that is often neglected in other computer vision books that is treated well here is that of motion. For those working in video processing, this might make this book a good selection. Also, the book gives one of the best discussions of eigenspaces that I have seen in print in chapter ten of the book, where the subject is recognition of 3D objects. I was able to code up the eigenfaces face recognition algorithm based almost entirely on the information found in chapter ten of this book. If you need an introduction to computer vision before tackling the more advanced material in this text, try Shapiro's book "Computer Vision" ISBN 0130307963. A good knowledge of linear algebra is necessary prior to understanding the algorithms in this book such as is found in Schaum's outline of Matrix Operations. Given the specific subject matter of this book, it would probably be an excellent choice for an engineer or scientist that is interested in computer vision as it relates to robotics.

The best textbook for computer vision

This is the best textbook for computer vision I've ever met. Compared with Forsyth and Ponce's heavy book titled with "computer vision: a modern approach", this book is very concise, precise, and suitable to be used in classes. Definitions are carefully given. Pseudocode is extremely helpful for practical use. Also some sections about mathematics are appreciated to understand the underlying algorithms. If you want to learn more or do research, then read Forsyth's book after finishing reading this book. Several my collegues think this book is the first choice for new comers in this field.

A Great History of Morality and Medicine

No Magic Bullet creates a very detailed, extremely well researched volume on the evolution of healthcare. The progression through the various phases of modern thought may seem entertaining or absurd in hindsight yet Brandt very carefully recreates the time period making the rise and fall of each idea seem appropriate, regardless of their absurdity.

If you are looking for an entertaining read, look elsewhere. No Magic Bullet is geared towards academics or professionals. It is not a difficult volume but it is not a whimsical read either. The level of detail and research put into this text indicate a profound passion and understanding of medicine in the proper historical context.

I'll agree with the first review, some of the information may seem dated, but if you're writing about history it makes little difference. If you're looking for cutting edge information on AIDS and the developments made in the past ten years; look elsewhere. But if you want a social progression spanning through some of medicine's interesting periods this is an excellent resource.

I highly recommend this volume for anyone that might be remotely interested in sociology, healthcare, or history.

About the Author

Glenys Nellist was born and raised in a little village in northern England.   Her stories and poems have been published in children’s magazines where her writing reflects a deep passion for bringing the Bible to life for young children. Glenys lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with her husband, David.

Sophie Allsopp grew up in a small English village and Hong Kong, where she particularly enjoyed living in a hotel and going to school on a tram. After studying for her illustration degree, Sophie won several awards and has now been illustrating for over 20 years. She lives in England with her husband, son, and a cat called Sadie.

A Must-Have in Your Home Library

Highly anticipated, this board book version of Love Letters from God is a must-have in every toddler's home library. It is beautifully written and designed with 8 significant Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments. Not more than eight lines per story, it is simple to digest and delightful to hear (written in rhymes). What is so unique and endearing about this book are the flaps to lift, revealing a love letter from God to the little reader. The letters tie in with the story, and help make a personal connection with the book's owner. There is a space to write your special little person's name in each of the letters. The illustrations are soft, real and inviting. This book makes a wonderful birthday present or gift to mark a particular milestone. I highly recommend Little Love Letters from God!

I LOVE this book. Once again Glenys has found a way to bring the news of God's love to little people in our lives. This book has the same premise as her previous one but this one is for the littlest! Little fingers can help to turn the pages as they sit in our laps and hear the most basic Bible stories. And then, the added bonus of a special love letter .....just for them! Genius!

but I was disappointed at there lack of practice tests

All the information is in the book, but I was disappointed at there lack of practice tests. They had one practice test a the end of the book, and asked me to go online to receive more questions. I went to their website and it was the same 120 questions in the exact same order. They had great information, but I can't go higher than 3 stars without more practice questions.

FAMTASTIC! A MUST BUY!

WOW! SO WONDERFUL!! This is the best Fairytales book I have always wanted to have. Magical pictures, very bright and colorful. The font is amazing for my 7 yr old to read. The pages are so smooth. He loves to read and listen every night. I wish it had pictures on the very first page where the stories begin. The stories are orignal without any twist. The best fairytale book . A must buy! I had ordered 2 months ago and got it before it was even in the stores. My son has been so thrilled with it ever since. Love the pictures❤️❤️❤️

My son loved this book! He is 10 and like Chris Colfer books but liked this one a lot too! The pictures are amazing. Very detailed and great colors! My son also liked reading the real fairy tales. We both liked learning the story about Thumbella. It was really fun!

Illustrated Dictionary of Architecture 3rd. Edition is a "Must Have"

The third edition of this publication represents a major improvement through the use of color photographs. Both previous editions were already excellent resources to learn about the multi-facetted issues of architecture. I recommended this book to my students in the Interior Architecture Program at Mount Ida College and at the Boston Architectural College.
The book covers all relevant terms specific to the field of architecture and is a "must have" for all who are interested in the subject, study it, or are already practicing. The lay-out and organization is very clear and the information, accompanying the illustrations, is brief but precise. The change from black/white illustrations to full color prints is a major improvement. It not only makes the representation of the listed building components more realistic - compared to previous editions - but also compliments the excellent photographic skills of the author.

In such well-named chapters as "Guarding Your Heart" and "What Matters at Fifty," Harris encourages the reader to look at one's character rather than reveling in infatuation, to regard love as a truly selfless, biblical act rather than a feeling. He refutes the concept that we are victims of "falling in love" (that it is beyond our control), saying that "God wants us to seek guidance from scriptural truth, not feeling. I've been disappointed by plenty of hopeful encounters that just turned into ...

I'm 23 and single. And saying I'm single is weird for me, because I have nothing to compare it to. I've never been in a relationship in any shape or form. I've done as much with boys in my whole life as I did at 4 years old (giving winks on the playground lol). And you don't say you're single at 4 years old. You just say...I am 4 years old (lol). Romance is so foreign to me but heartbreak is not. I've been disappointed by plenty of hopeful encounters that just turned into friendly or brother-sister kind of relationships. I've dreamed it all and done nothing folks. But when I found and read this book one day in New York. My mind split right open, because it felt like he had been in it. He covers it all. He didn't leave one ounce of my heart soul or mind out. I felt like being single and saved was not just this cool thing that you did at church and left at the pew on a Saturday night. It is a real, possible 24/7 thing you can do heart, mind, and soul. How many people believe this? I didn't. I was pure physically, but every other area was contaminated, And that's where Christ comes in. Kissing Dating Goodbye is not a cult folks. It is a miraculous gift that is only God given. It can't be forced upon or ritualized. It is the Holy Spirit that moves and conquers these almost impossible mountains in the age of our culture and time. Because of my renewed foundation in Christ, I am daily walking in 24/7 purity, not by my might. But God's alone. And because miracles exist, I am daily falling for an invisible man who's face I've never seen and who's heart I consistently grow to know. Who died and rose again 2,000 years before I was born. And lives in a Kingdom I've never seen yet lives in me. IF that's not a miracle. I don't know WHAT is!

Love, love, love this book!

I first read this book 15 years ago and it truly revolutionized my ideas on dating and has given me practical ways to avoid the common pitfalls of dating. I have given it to many people over the years and without fail, anyone who took the time to read it has come back to me and thanked me over and over for giving them something that has changed how they view the whole dating scene and to have a better way of approaching it all. Truly has changed my life! Can't recommend it enough. Joshua Harris has also written a review on a book called "His Perfect Faithfulness" by Eric and Leslie Ludy, a true account of their beautiful love story based on God's principle of "courtship" as opposed to dating in moving toward a committed relationship. A beautiful, all you could hope for, love story on how it can be done and have the very best anyone could ever hope for in that. Hope this helps even one person find their own "true love story" !

My 9 year old grandson loved this book. I read to him nightly over the phone since we live in different states, and he chose the book. I love the Who Was books, and have never been disappointed. This one gave a lot of insight into Davy Crockett's life that I did not know about. I like learning along with him!

National Board Certified Physics Teacher Loves It

This book is an outstanding study tool for students enrolled in college preparatory physics courses or AP Physics B courses. I have found it an EXTREMELY valuable starting point for my own quizzes and tests. The questions seem to be the perfect balance between conceptual and computational assessments. I use the books in this series as the ideal curricular standard for the courses described above. Highest praise for the authors.

Tremendous help

This volume was a tremendous help for a child I know who graduated from a New York state high school in the last two years. The physics teacher assigned did a lousy job explaining the ins and outs of the physics examination for the N.Y. State Regents board. This book, however, helped the high school student earn well above average on the results. Nice book.
